CNC Laser Operator

General Description:

The major responsibility of this position is to maintain Customer Satisfaction with all Customers effectively setting up and operating the Lasers to maintain equipment utilization goals while following all required standards and procedures that apply to the Laser Areas, Notifying Supervision of any concerns in a timely manner.

Essential Duties:


  • Maintain day to day production activities by performing setups and production rates as needed to maintain complete Customer Satisfaction, Product(s) must meet print and router requirements, both dimensionally and per listed times given on Part routers.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all AS and ISO standards and procedures that are directly influenced by the Laser operations, ( ex. Clock in / Out on Jobs, Parts made to print, Department books maintained, Routers must be signed and dated in the appropriate areas for Laser. )

  • Maintain all aspects of our company?s 5-S policies by working in and maintaining a well-organized workstation, All equipment and surrounding areas will be cleaned and organized daily in efforts to eliminate the waste of production time including performing the required Preventive Maintenance on Equipment as specified in our PM program, PM Sheets must be turned in weekly for review.

  • Report Quality / Production related problem or issues to floor Supervisor in order to maintain an effective line of communication in efforts to eliminate negative impacts on our commitments to our Customers, Ex. Scrap, Rework, Behind Schedule, Machine or Equipment failures, etc.? )

  • Strive to look for and identify ways to streamline workflow in your work area, suggestions for improvements are not only welcome, they are expected.

  • Maintain a positive and approachable attitude toward all Employees, creating and encouraging a quality mindset throughout the shop, Co Workers should feel that you have the Companies best interest in mind.

  • Accurately record production in the provided ERP system when beginning and completing jobs, (ex. Start and Stop times, Scrap, material usage, qty., etc.?.)? ?

Essential Functions:

  • Operate the CNC laser and other machinery used in the production process, or assist other machine operators.

  • Select and set up lenses based on material type and thickness, load programs, set machine parameters and proper fixtures to ensure optimal performance of the equipment.

  • Establish proper stop location, adjust laser beam focal point.

  • Create and edit laser cut files from CAD drawings in various formats using Radan; prepare, nest parts from the cut files in the laser for optimal cutting speeds and yield.

  • Manage and maintain files to ensure matching revision levels at all times.

  • Monitor fill level of chiller system and process gases, and report reordering levels.

  • Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.

  • Perform prescribed preventative maintenance on machines and equipment as required.

  • Perform all dimensional inspections.

  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions.

  • Performs typical machine shop operations to support the production and fabrication of metal parts.

  • Must be familiar with the basic machine functions in order to perform the tasks stated above.

  • Must be willing to accept and receive supervision and assistance with regard to machine set-up.

  • Must be able to operate with minimal supervision once trained.

  • Wear proper safety equipment and comply with company safety rules at all times.

  • Make a positive contribution to maintaining a workplace that is healthy, safe, neat and tidy.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent years of experience.

  • One year of related shop experience operating and maintaining lasers.

  • One year of experience using the Radan software.

  • Training in general safety awareness and practices.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Ability to use/read tape measures. Working knowledge of using calipers & micrometers a plus.

  • Ability to read and write English, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Proficient using a PC in a Windows environment.

  • Simple shop math.

Don't Be Fooled

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
